Meanwhile, the first victory of the season came from the roads of the Cadence Junior Road Race.

The cyclocross season that just wrapped up was nothing less than exhilarating, considering that it was studded with great successes, culminating with Tom Pidcock capturing the sport’s Junior World Title in Luxembourg. Now the young champ is continuing his race towards ever more important milestones.

For the moment he has left the cyclocross racetracks to dedicate himself to the new on-road season wearing the jersey for team PH-MAS/Paul Milnes/Oldfield ERT, a formation outfitted by RPM Cycling. However, the music hasn’t changed; Pidcock always races to give it his all, constantly vying for victory. And he scored his first on-road success in no time flat.

On Sunday, April 2nd, the English phenomenon won the Cadence Junior Race, the inaugural test in the 2017 British Cycling Junior Road Series, which was held at Powys in Wales. The race was characterized by an edgy circuit winding up and down the green Welsh hills. “The first laps were mellow, then there were several attacks but in the final, when the group was about to catch up with the fugitives, I decided to go for it; I didn’t feel like waiting for the bunch sprint, so I attacked and my strategy paid off,” explains the winner, Tom Pidcock.

Pidcock made it to the finish line in grand fashion – all alone, arms in the air, 19” ahead of hometown favourite Oscar Mingay (Wales) and 29” before Jim Brown, his team mate from team PH-MAS/Paul Milnes/Oldfield ERT. The rest of the pack had to settle for the final bunch sprint to determine who would come away in fourth place.

This victory takes on a special essence, considering that this was an important test for Tom Pidcock as he looks forward to the big date with the Paris-Roubaix Junior on April 9th. The young English ace was in fact called on by the federation to race in the British National jersey for this prestigious competition, which is also valid as the 2nd test in the 2017 Junior Cup of Nations.

This convocation once again underscored all the talent possessed by this kid, who is turning out to be destined for two wheel greatness.RPM, the completely “Made in Italy” brand from Montebelluna (Treviso), is pleased and proud to be an integral part of this project set around Tom Pidcock. RPM clothed Pidcock in the cyclocross season and now they are outfitting him on the road, too, as part of the partnership with team PH-MAS/Paul Milnes/Oldfield ERT, a force to be reckoned with in the English youth cycling movement. 

Now all eyes and attention are focused on this Northern Classic. Before the pros hit the scene we will all get the chance to follow the endeavours of tomorrow’s champions. Even though we are among the juniors, it’s still all about riding the cobblestones. No matter the level, the Roubaix deserves proper respect. It’s a date at the velodrome in Roubaix, in hopes of seeing the first rider entering the oval wearing a jersey with the Union Jack colours: that would be Tom Pidcock.
